The Brighthelmstone Deacon (30 Years)
One sad fact of Life, my friends
Is "All good things must have their ends "
Now I must say to everyone
My time as Editor is done -
Thirty years have passed away
Since that well-remembered day
When three Past Masters got together -
Mused, and thought, and wondered whether
It might not be a good notion
For them to set the wheels in motion
To bring to the Masonic scene
A Brighthelmstone Magazine !
So Don McPherson and Steve Meaney
Sent Jim Woolley off to see me =
Jim then asked me for my views -
When I said "Great !", he broke the news
That - and I could hardly credit it -
They had picked on ME to `edit` it !
I at once perceived their need
So I - naturally - agreed !
The First Issue saw the light
On 73’s Installation Night
Simple, it was, you might rcall
Just two foolscap sheets, thats all.
The second one was just the same,
`til a Brother, Bill Tuppen by name
Said " This is just a short newsletter -
Margaret and I can do much better !"
And so they did, it all came true -
The next one had a cover Blue,
And it had a different look -
Not just a paper, but a Book !
In its` pages have been found
Articles from all around
From PGM`s and Worthy Brothers
To Apprentices - and others.
Now, sadly, Steve, Bill, Jim and Don
To the Grand Lodge Above have gone -
Where, we are sure, they all are knowing
Margaret and I have kept it going;
For thirty years we`ve done our best
But think we have earned a rest !
So we bow out - regretfully -
"Our" Deacon`s now with Brother Lee !
